I remember when the Olympics came to my home town, Los Angeles, in 1984. There were radio and television ads for the whole summer before hand for people to take the bus when the Olympics came to town. They warned that there would be so many security problems that it would be better for everyone if you left your car at home. In fact, most people listened to the instructions! But not my Dad! He didn’t like to take the bus, and he took me to the Track and Field Finals. We had a wonderful ten kilometer drive on the Santa Monica Freeway, which usually would take upwards to an hour and a half to get into the Center City. But this time it took about ten minutes and the parking was perfect. We saw the US take Gold after Gold in the Track and Field and Carl Lewis was the winner. Thanks Olympic Committee! But did we go shopping? Not really, we were more interested in seeing the events.
What about you? What would you do when the Olympics come to your town?
